Description

Silverstarshop/Desert Designs is one of the oldest Zuni Fetish Traders on .  We are a seller you can trust and have been on since 2001. We offer a selection of both contemporary and older Native American Carvings.  Our descriptions are detailed and include many close-up photos of each carving.  We carefully pack and we ship promptly.  We take great pride in the quality of our listings.  We hope you will consider these things when selecting that special Fetish carving for purchase.

Offered here is an excellent Big Horn RAM/Sheep fetish carved by Zuni Pueblo artisan: Aaron Sheche (d). (Aaron was the husband of Thelma Sheche and the son-in-law of the very famous carver Theodore Kucate)
This larger sized Ram has been dated to the 1970\'s.  It is carved from a nice piece of Dolomite.  The eyes and nostrils are beautifully inlaid black dots.  The medicine bundle is composed of 3 small stones: white, turquoise and orange.  The carving is initialed and also signed in script by the artist on the bottom of the feet.  This piece was purchased at the Keishi Zuni store in Santa Fe and authenticated by them.  There is also a photo of a very similar carving on page 90 in the book by Kent McManis Zuni Fetish Carvers of the 1970\'s.
This is an extremely rare carving and would be an excellent addition to any serious Zuni Fetish Collection.

SIZE:  This larger sized ram measures just about 4 inches long.  It is approx. 1&1/2 inches high at the medicine bundle and about 7/8 of an inch wide at the widest point.
PLEASE NOTE:  The photos are highly magnified so be sure to look at the photos with the quarter and the hand to get an idea of the size and scale.

CONDITION:  Fine Vintage Condition.  There are tiny remnants of an old sticker or price tag on the bottom on the rear feet.

AUTHENTICITY:  This is an authentic Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico (USA).  This piece is initialed and signed by the artist on the bottom of the feet.  The initials are on the front feet and the scripted signature is etched very lightly on the back feet.  The piece was also authenticated by the Keishi Store in Santa Fe, NM.

ATTRIBUTES:  In Zuni Indian tradition, each animal is believed to have inherent powers or qualities that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal.  The RAM is a symbol for self worth, and assures an increase in flocks! The sheep stands for charity, elegance, and passion.

SHIPPING:  This piece will be carefully packed and double boxed for shipping. It will be shipped Priority Mail. A signature will be required upon receipt.  Shipping charges are calculated by package weight and your zip code.
Combined shipping within 4 days is always available.  Please email for quote if you are purchasing multiple items.
