This is a real nice 8 X 10inch glossy photo of Lt. James “Jim” Brooks, ace, with 13.0 USAAF victories inWWII. The photo, in excellentcondition, is guaranteed to be original and hand signed.

Seven months after receivinghis wing, 1st Lt Jim Brooks was assigned to the 307th FighterSquadron in San Severino, Italy. Initially he flew the Supermarine Spitfire MKIX fighter but later transitioned to the P-51 Mustang. The two P-51s that Brooks flew in his careerwere named “January” (after his birthday) and “February”. Jim got his first victory in May, 1944 over Italy. Incredibly, his 13.0 victories were all in athree month period; May, 1944 to August, 1944.He is additionally credited with three probably destroyed and twodamaged. During that time period 1stLt. Brooks was leading entire fighting groups (54 Mustangs). Brooks finished his combat tour in Italy with 55missions and 280 combat hours. His decorationsinclude the Silver Star, DFC with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with21 oak leaf clusters.

After WWII, Brooks accepted aregular commission in the air force and became jet qualified in 1946. During the Korean War, he participated in thefirst big, all jet air battle at 42,000 feet over the Yalu River. Brooks resigned from the USAF in 1951 as amajor and became an engineering test pilot.He was one of the founders and first president of the Fighter AceAssociation and is past president of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
