Pre WWI US Cavalry Saddle Blanket with the letters “U.S.” and the bursting shell Stitched or embroidered in center. Referred to as M1908. McClellan saddle blanket. Wool, color a mixture of olive-drab shade with an olive-brown border of two stripes . First stripe inner edge is 5 5/8 inches from end of blanket and is 1 inch wide. Second stripe is 2 inches wide. Blanket measures approx. 73 x 72 inches. The striped ends are hemmed. It has a few small holes, worn spot on hem, one small mend. There is no tag on blanket. The hand stitched or embroidered \"US\" is approx. 6 inches tall, the flaming bomb is 5 1/2 inches tall and thread is worn. The blanket wool is scratchy, pure wool variety. Amazing survivor. Was among belongings of a WWI fighter pilot, Felix Rigau in his daughter\'s estate where there were multiple generations from both sides of the family who were in the military.
