Dr. Alvin Wood Chase (20 March 1817- 25 May 1885) earned his M.D. from the Cincinnati Eclectic Medical Institute, after a short course. \"Dr. Chase\'s Recipes or, Information for Everybody,\" which he compiled, printed, and marketed himself, met with great success and was published in many editions from 1856 onward.

In 1872, after he regretfully sold the copyright for \"Dr. Chase\'s Recipes\" and many other assets to Rice Aner Beal, he tried to recoup lost income and published \"Dr. Chase\'s Family Physician, Farrier, Bee Keeper and Second Receipt Book\" - which embroiled him in a legal battle with Beal.

Just before he died, Chase finished writing Dr. Chase\'s Third, Last and Complete Receipt Book And Household Physician\", which was subsequently published with an\"MEMORIAL\" recounting the details of Chase\'s life.

This volume wonderfully compiles all the former works Chase has ever published which date back to Pre Civil War life. While modern technology and the internet have provided up to date methods, this is an excellent reference book.

CONDITION OF BOOK

This book is in FAIRLYGOOD CONDITION for its age; especially to be 124 YEARS OF AGE!!!ALL PAGES ARE PRESENT!!! and tightly bound. There are a small handful ofoccasional tears in the frontis and title page that are 2 3/4\" inches at the base of the page. They have been repaired with acid free tape designed for the purpose offuture preservation without allowing any \"yellowing\" as regular tape does. The ONLY in text markings are obvious as a previous owner definitely used this book primarily for its DELICIOUS COOK BOOK RECIPES.You will note there are clippings on the front and backinterior cover boards of personal newspaper clippings of old. In the HOUSEHOLD MEMORANDA, there are blank pages for the individual to utilize and store their own thoughts and recipes which this owner chose to use well with some personal goodies and remedies. Its only mentionable imperfection is both hinges have been nicely repaired with book binding transparent tape for better support. There is tone to the pages, however, with a few blemishes, mild foxing, this is a good copy. The text block is unmarked and quite clean. There are 865 pages in this 6 1/2\" X 8 1/2\" volume.
