The Miraculous Medal is one of the most beloved of all religious medals. In 1830, the Virgin Mary appeared to a French nun named Sister Catherin Laboure (now a Saint). The Virgin Mary showed Sister Catherin her vision of this exact medal, which she directed to be struck and distributed. The medal includes the Virgin Mary, a cross, two hearts and 12 stars.

The inscription reads: O Mary conceived without sin pray for us

who have recourse to thee.

The back of the medal includes the M, cross, two hearts and 12 stars referred to above.
