DESCRIPTION; This is one of the most unique Long Ear Moai Tikis I have ever seen, including many of my Tiki friends, associates and Tiki aficionados included! The only provenance I have is it was carved by an old pro who lived on Easter ISLAND \"Rapa Nui\" in the 50s (confirmed or earlier, still inquiring) as a souvenir and brought back to California by an old couple and willed to The Coral Reefs Tiki Collection.
No one I know has ever seen it\'s equal and I have shown this to some of the Tiki greats and they all agree- \"This is a Museum quality piece and a unique find\", so why horde it, were sharing it with you!
MATERIAL; BODY/SHELL- RESIN, INSIDE FOAM INJECTED (this will last longer than wood, it cant rot!
CASTING TECHNIQUE; High quality slush casting then roto molded twice so the resin shell is at least 1/8\" to 1/4\" thick. Then 10 lb expandable foam is injected and packed hard to fill cavity which makes it VERY solid but light weight and this means your Moai ALWAYS will be bug FREE!
PAINTING; PAINT COLOR WILL VARY but will be very close to my original vision and I\'ve made quite a few with NO COMPLAINTS (Photos are from #1). Each one takes eight hours to make, I use multiple painting techniques which takes four hours and as you can see simulates aged wood nicely (I\'ve fooled Tiki archaeologists). These are hand painted and detailed so each one is unique, these don\'t ship till I\'m 100% satisfied it represents my original vision! Multiple painting techniques are used including- Primer coats, base coats then color washes, dry brushes, mat clear coats and then I seal it with MULTIPLE exterior mat UV clear coats. If your going to display this outside I recommend a new UV clear coat every few years and this will last forever (like anything outside in the direct sunlight it will need a little maintenance). UV Mat Spray can is fine every year, paint on varnish is better and can last a lot longer up to 3 to 5 years.

This Easter Island Sculpture captures the culture and the artistry of this ancient island. Easter Island, known today as Rapa Nui, is best known for the large moai (pronounced mo-eye) sculptures that are found throughout the island. It is believed that they were created to represent a family or clan member. No two are exactly the same, and most moai are situated facing away from the sea with the belief that their supernatural powers would look over and protect the family. Similarly, the smaller sculptures included in Ancestral Spirits were created as honorary pieces for ancestors, were used as items of personal protection, or were created conjunction with cultural and religious practices. Some animals, like the carved moko or lizards, were thought to be protection against illness and disease. Small moai and moai kavakava – those figures with sunken bellies and protruding ribs – represent individual ancestors and are intricately carved.  Created in the 20th century usually in stone or wood, these pieces reflect the artistry of Easter Island craftspeople, and are a way of preserving a culture that no longer exists as it did when the large moai were created hundreds of years ago.
