MUSEUM QUALITY DAGUERREOTYPE OF A BOY ON A ROCKING HORSE INSIDE MINT RARE CASE -Where does someone start when describing such a rare museum worthy quarter plate? I will start with the subject matter of this daguerreotype. I have done some serious research online and only found two other quarter plates images captured during the 1840\'s containing children mounted on one of these magnificent sculptural horses. The horse itself was created with outstanding details including a real horsehair mane, fitted with amazing horse tack and you can clearly see the operator even tinted the tongue of the animal after the image had been processed. The charming youngster, no doubt, must have been thrilled with the fact that his parents had brought him to a studio with such a large lifelike steed to sit upon on this very day. I am sure the experience was the handsome young fellas first time in front of a camera lens. The details are so spectacular, you can even see the metal legs supporting the large studio prop and the fantastic pattern on the photographers floor beneath. In addition, the image resides in a rare mint case with a gold foil design on the exterior. A single leaf motif was pressed into the center of the velvet pillow adjacent to this superb likeness. Any collector of toy horses or early American photography will place this image front and center of their collection. I am offering this masterpiece for the first time on since I purchased it out of Washington State a good number of years ago. Good luck to all my fellow collectors.

PROVENANCE:I was lucky to recently display this particular image at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City from October 2016-March 2017. The museum displayed nearly 150 tintypes, ambrotypes and daguerreotypes of children with their dolls and toys from my personal view my detailed photos for the actual condition and as part of my description. There is absolutely no retouching whatsoever to my images taken with my iPhone and my images truly do not do this magnificent image justice. I have personally resealed image with P90 archival tape and fitted with a new piece of glass. The 1840\'s quarter plate contains amazing sharpness, excellent contrast and superior tonal range. Knowing the price I am asking, I will be extremely open about any condition issues in this plate. The only flaws I can find are a small tiny pinpoint of dust in the background, some heavier buff marks from the creation of the original plate and the boy slightly moved his head during the long exposure. The rare leather case contains the original hinge, both working clasps and a beautiful deep maroon velvet plush. Overall, a truly monumental image for your collection of 19th Century photography or early American crafted toys.
