Macassan Prau (Boat) Aboriginal Australia, Framed print of Bark Painting:
$34.00

This is a beautiful print which reproduces a painting on bark done by an Australian Aboriginal artist from Croote Eylandt. It illustrates the boats the people from Celebes used when they visited the coast of Arnhem Land (Australia) for at least a century prior to 1907 when voyages were prohibited by the Australian Government. They sailed their praus south on the monsoons and returned some months later with the South Easterly winds. Aborigines helped them in their work gathering and treating trepang, pearl shell and turtle shell.

If you look at the close up picture, you can see the texture of the original bark. See my other similar listing that shows a crab probably by the same artist. The note on that print says they used charcoal to coat the bark. Sealed the charcoal with juice from an orchid plant. And their paints were white clay, red ocher and yellow ocher mixed with water on a stone. They used hair or plant fibers for a brush to apply the paint. I\'m really not sure what printing process was used to create this. But there\'s no dot matrix under magnification, and you can tell the paint is sitting on top of the paper. So it\'s either silkscreen or an original on paper. This is one display in an antique mall and subject to prior sale. WAIT FOR THE INVOICE to pay. I need to get it in my possession to know it\'s still available and didn\'t walk out with a happy customer. They take things they buy with them, you know. If it\'s gone, you don\'t owe anything.

The frame is 16 inches by 21.5 inches. Email if you have questions.

THE SMALL PRINT.Shipping will be priority mail insured. I pack carefully, but I still insure. It may take an extra day to find the right size box for packing. I will not send the frame internationally. I will remove the print and either roll it loosely or mail it flat to send overseas. Shipping will be much less that way, but contact me for an estimate. I\'ll need your zip to do an estimate.

There is a mate to this print in my other listings. If you buy both, I will ship together and invoice you with a new total with lower shipping. WAIT FOR THE INVOICE to pay. These both look great on the wall.
