We were given this magnificent Art Deco Parasol to sell earlier this week andit came from a local estate here in Brighton.The previousowner was a costume designer and fashion historian and had amassed ahuge collection of vintage items for research and inspiration.We will be selling many items from this collection over the next few weeks with some incredible things being listed.. We told by the relatives she bought this in Paris in the 1960\'s and they were always told the fabric was designed by Paul Poiret and made to match a robe that was worn for the beach and promenade... Evidently Paul Poiret was the son of an umbrella/parasol maker and as a result had crafted a unique way to cover a parasol with just one piece of cloth with no seams as is the case here and is much more difficult than you think.
We have done some research and found very similar fabric by Paul Poiret online and can believe this all to be true.It is beautifully made with an exotic wood dark wood handle and shaft with a Chinese Bone trim and finials on the umbrella.The pure silk fabric is amazing with very stylised flowers with a black silk border and the inside is lined in pink silk.
A truly unique and beautiful parasol with an interesting providence and there is not a lot more l can say really but ask you to take a look at the photos and make up your own mid,what you see is what you will get.
This dates from the early 1920\'s and everything is in mint conditionand it measures 24\" long from top to bottom..
