Rare and magnificent bronze sculpture of an Eagle Kachina by Hopi master artist Henry Shelton.

Shelton, Oraiba AZ 10/48.The pose of the dancer really captures the grace and movement of an eagle and the detailing on the costume and wings are magnificent! 16\" tall statue plus 1\" wooden base, 15\" wingspan, dancer\'s body 4 1/2\" wide, weighs 16 pounds. Henry Shelton, whose Hopi name is Ho-ya\'-oma or Arrow Carrying, is from the village of Oraibi, on Third Mesa on the Hopi Reservation. His father was Peter Shelton Sr. and his brother Peter Shelton Jr., also a renowned kachina carver and painter. In recent years Henry\'s nephew Philander Shelton has followed in his father and uncle\'s footsteps. Henry Shelton\'s kachinas have received numerous awards and been collected by many major museums, including the Smithsonian, Museum of Northern Arizona, Denver Art Museum, Heard Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. In 1992 he was designated an Arizona National Treasure. He has not carved kachinas for many years, and these bronze sculptures based on his kachinas are extremely rare.
