Magnificent Large 18th Century(1784) Solid Silver London Hallmarked Sauce Boat with beautiful shell feet
This item was Assayed in London ( crowned leopards head ) with the date letter ( i ) which I believe to be for 1784. The makers mark is slightly rubbed on second letter but this is still descernabile as a \"W\" and I believe the full mark to be “ I W “. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to establish the identity of the silversmith but am continuing to research ( any assistance/advice would be appreciated )
It has a crest to the front depicting a falcon killing a stork with the motto “ NE OUBlIE “ which I believe means “ Do not Forget “ above and is attributable to Clan Graham of Perthshire,Dundee and Montrose.
It weighs a substantial 242 grams and is approx. 7” long,3.5” wide and 4.5” tall to top of handle.
It is supported on three pretty little shell feet.
A beautiful piece which is in remarkably excellent condition comencerite with its age and use age for the serious collector or perhaps the “ Clan Graham “ fraternity.
