Maine, Civil War Documents, 1864 Enlistment, 1865 Discharge eagle buckle belt:
$225.00

This is both the enlistment and discharge papers, as well as the belt with buckle belonging to Urban D. Goodwin of Maine. ** I have been informed that the belt and buckle are later, Model 1874 eagle plate, and found as noted Plate 914 page 542 of O\'Donnell and Campbells reference work American Military Belt Plates. And that the likelyhood was that Mr Goodwin wore this during his Veteran days with the GAR. ***These items were in an attic/home for generations and were not \"Collected by someone\", these are Urban D. Goodwin\'s.
Urban D. Goodwin was a Farmer born in Lebanon Maine. His enlistment paper is titled The Commanding Officer of the 8th Regiment of Maine Volunteers. He is appointed Principal Musician and Leader of the band of the 8th Regiment of Maine Volunteers. On the date of January 9, 1864.His Discharge paper is Dated June 11, 1865. States he was a Farmer and 37 yrs of age. 6\" 1\" high, Light complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair. The reverse has a list of engagements he was involved in, all in Va.These items were out of a seacoast estate. The documents are in the frames they were found in. They have not been removed. The belt is in good condition for age, flexible with some signs of age. The Buckle is marked The Pettibone Mfg. Co. Cin\'ti O. , it is in good used condition with a slight bend on the top edge.
As a side I found an Adjutant Generals Report online and the dates it contains dates that appear to be 1862,63 and list Urban and give Sept 25 as Day of Muster he is found under wagoner, but the note says, Det. as bugler, never was a wag\'r. Not sure what this represents.
I am not all that familiar with military documents and am selling these items as I found them, Please ask ALL questions prior to offerding. This is a lot that will be sold together. I can send other photos if necessary. The papers appear to be in nice condition given their age, but are in the frames they were found in and the frame must come apart to remove these from their frames. These were put away in an old farm house so may need cleaning. No negative odors.
Thank you for viewing.
