This is not your run of the mill \"Hei Tiki\" from New Zealand! In fact I have searched the web and I cannot find one that is identical ! Not even close! The only piece I found was in the Museum in New Zealand , clearly a carved bird something like this one, but it did not have the figure down below(looks like part of the feet but look again!It\'s like a baby bird! ) If you know about New Zealand then you know the Maori culture is different than any other and they\'ve existed in New Zealand for over 1000 years . They have very specific believes in animals bearing special powers. The usual one you will see is the \"Tiki\" or man (with tilted head) often inlaid eyes, others are fishooks, whaletails, and \"twists\" among others.This piece is clearly greenstone (not the new type imported from ,Canada, for the trade market often touted for it\'s transparency), this is a Parrot of some type,(Some birds have gone extinct from New Zealand I cannot say if this is one or not. Several have and few were discovered to still exist hidden in the 1950\'s or so) This is a strange bird with an odd \"thing -for lack of a better word) on it\'s beak! The carving on this piece is also not that of a machine! It\'s clearly very much hand carved. So , my point is I believe this could be not only vintage, maybe even antique and to my mind, even more likely Very Old! The Maori have been carving these type of pendants for decades!\" The setting\" (hanger, clasp and necklace are clearly modern ,not doubt! ) I could be wrong! As I say I am not an expert! So please do your own research! The size is 2 1/8\" x 1 1/2\" by a hair more than 1/4\" in width. I really only know the prices of modern\"commercial\" for the tourist trade pieces are quite high! But I really have no proof of my theory , so because it\'s unusual , not run of the mill, handmade (one of a kind I would say) , I\'m pricing it according to similar Tribal stone pendants , of similar size.
