This 5 x 7 1/2 inch letter sheet contains a 2 page letter from John Edwin Lilly of Mercer Co. VA who was a confederate solider serving in the 13th VA Cavalry. He writes the letter from Stony Creek, VA on March 22, 1865. \"We have been under marching orders for two or three weeks, expecting the Yanks to make a move. We moved up to Dinwiddie Court House a day or two after I wrote. I would have been at home tonight as we were going on furlough, but a \"Tarheel\" Regiment went in our place. ....Billie Rains is in the guard house charged with horse stealing and desertion...\"This came out of some Lilly family papers. There is alot of wear on the fold seams and along the edges. It is written in pencil and some of it is a little hard to read. Shipping includes insurance.
