Description:A very nice example of this rare novel, set in 1854 and featuring horse racing, a whole chapter set at a cricket match at Lords, and culminating in the Crimean War. First printing of the first edition. Original two volume set in the original publisher\'s blue cloth with gilt titles to spine. Original cream endpapers. 275 pages (vol 1), 275 pages (vol 2). Both volumes are in attractive condition, with some light bumping and wear to their extremities (see pictures). Volume Two has a split along the rear spine edge and two tears across the spine (see picture). Subscription labels removed from rear covers(see pictures), small library stamps to title page and elsewhere (see pictures). Clean and free of inscriptions. Hinges cracked but binding sound and square in both volumes. A nice set.
