A Massim New Guinea 19th Century War Club. Collected sometime between 1870 and 1906 by businessmen James Burns & Robert Philp of Burns, Philp and Co, probably in the mid 1880's or 1890'swhen they were leading excursion trips to New Guinea starting in 1884.There is good patina and signs of much handling. 29" long and made of heavy black palm wood.
