This is a beautiful pair of matched paper mache dolls from the mid to early 19thc. They stand 15\" tall, a perfect cabinet size, and are all original. Their costumes retain bright colors and show minimal wear, most noted on the back of the man, which is shown.. The lady still has her original wig. They are probably German in origin, but made for the French market. Each has a paper mache head with a straight unjointed pinkish leather body with stitched fingers and separate thumbs.
