Gold colored commemorative centenary medal of the Battle of Plattsburgh 1814-1914. The obverse has profiles of Commodore McDonough and General Macomb with battle date of September 11, 1814, the decisive battle of the War of 1812 with England. The reverse has a scene of the ship battle based on the line engraving by Benjamin Tanner (1775-1834), and the words \"Centenary of the Battle of Plattsburgh\". There are four ships portrayed. They are, from left to right, the Brittish Frigate Confiance, the United States Brig Eagle, the United States Ship Saratoga, and the Brittish Brig Linnet. At the bottom are the initials of the Whitehead and Hoag company, Newark NJ who struck the medal. Their order number was 66989, which is on the box that the medals came in.The medalis in uncirculated condition and in its original tissue paper with its original ribbon. The medal is one inch in diameter. From my grandfather\'s collection. Note, there is a flat $8.00 shipping fee to countries other than the United States.
