Sydney Phillip Parker was born in Hornsey, North London, the 1911 census records he is an 18 year old Insurance Company Clerk residing at 86 Denton Road, Hornsey with his father Thomas a Fancy Drapery Buyer a widower and two brothers. Parker enlisted at Chelsea and served in Egypt from 28 April 1915 before arriving in Gallipoli. Died of wounds received in action during the attack on Chocolate Hill 22 August 1915 serving with \'C\' Squadron aged 22 years, he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
The 1st County of London Yeomanry sailed aboard the Caledonia for Lemnos on 14 August 1915 strength 16 officers and 320 other ranks. Arriving at Mudros on 16 August it transferred to HMS Doris and landed at Sulva on 18 August. Took part in the attack on Chocolate Hill 21 August advancing under a heavy fire, in the words of a Turkish Artillery officer who commented on the action after the war \'The Division presented a target such as Artillerymen thought impossible outside the world of dreams.\' During its advance across 2 miles of open ground 2nd Mounted Division sustained more than 1,200 casualties the me advancing in perfect order, officers carrying their walking sticks. The 1st County of London Yeomanry continued the advance on the right of Chocolate Hill, halted at Green Hill then continued forward to the trenches on the west slope of Hill \'W\'. Ordered to withdraw the following day, 22 August their casualties amounted to 10 killed and 46 wounded.
