Among new and old watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then the company has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is also my favorite Swiss watch firm, unsurpassed when it comes to style and high quality for a not (as of yet) crazy high price.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s Omega timepiece, a circa 1945 model featuring the venerable 30T2 PC caliber mechanism, used in selected WWII era Omega watches and later modified to become the 265 and 266 calibers.
This triple-signed watch is a Reference Model 2214 and it measures 39mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (34.5mm with original, unmarked steel winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/2” long by just over 1-1/4” wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 30T2 P.C. caliber, 15 jewel, manual wind mechanism, fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David prior to sale to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, matte enamel finished dial is in pristine shape, the original that’s been professionally restored. It features a 60 minute outer chapter brown Roman numerals and enamel dash hour markers, original Dauphine-style silver metal hands and a larger sized sub-seconds dial with engine-turned background and 60 second outer track. Signed OMEGA below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition, a new old stock addition. The two-piece stainless steel case is Omega-signed and in excellent order. The original, unmarked stainless steel winding crown is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find a stainless steel back lid that is free of any wear or engravings and is in immaculate shape. Removing this lid reveals a clean and original mechanism signed OMEGA SWISS – 15 JEWELS with caliber number of 30T2 PC stamped below the balance wheel. The serial number of #10,653,352 dates the watch to ca 1945 as per published production numbers – a WWII period model. The caliber number 30 is in reference to the 30mm diameter of the mechanism.
The inside of the case lid is finely engine turned and stamped ACIER INOXYDABLE – OMEGA, FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, [REF.] 2214/6 .
This fine watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 18mm dark brown Fluco, Germany pigskin leather strap with stainless steel buckle. I think the dark brown strap goes nicely with the brown Roman numerals but if you prefer a tan or black strap that’s fine too. All in all an excellent WWII era timepiece with a legendary Omega calibre under the hood, I think you’re going to love this one – I have a couple 30T2 models and they’re my favorite to wear.
