Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration.Embossed from 1882 is a multi-motif pattern. That is to say, each type of piece has a different lush floral arrangement on the handle. Embossed can be easily confused with Magnolia, another multi-motif floral pattern, which was also brought out by one of International\'s Rogers brands in 1891.The fish serving set consists of two pieces: a fork and a long wide blade called the fish slice. The fish slice is meant to lift pieces of fish up and transport them to a plate. The fork serves to slide the piece on and off the slice. Slices usually have a swagged or pointed end which is used to probe for bones and other problems. Sometimes one side is somewhat raised to prevent the fish from slipping off. The fish serving fork originally came in a set with the fish serving knife. This was apparently an unstable relationship since the two have often become separated. That is why one sees a fish serving fork offered by itself. The fork is designed for serving fish and for moving a piece of fish like a filet from a serving platter onto a place plate. Doing this is a little bit trickier than it sounds. Fish is flaky, and has a tendency to fall apart. The bones can be difficult to detect. The fish serving fork has wide flat tines to support the delicate filet. There are also pointy ends to the tines for probing for bones, and for stripping meat from the bones. Fish forks can also be used to serve any bony meat, and because they are wide, they can also be used for asparagus. The fish serving knife and fork offered here measure respectively about 11 1/2” and about 9\". These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 135 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The blade of the fish knife is expertly hand engraved with whimsical fish in an aquatic scene. The pattern is crisp and clear. These servers have been carefully used, well cared for, and appear to have seen little use in their long life.I polish all silver before listing on . Please email with any questions before offerding.
