I have had this set for years and always loved it, damage and all. The set itself is not seen that often, and this is the ONLY one I\'ve ever seen where the figures were painted in flesh tone. Armor Bronze, I think, is the only manufacturer that used flesh tone on some of its figures (Boy/Cherub Reading is another that comes to mind).
The design is Michaelangelo\'s Night and Day figures on the Tomb of the Medici in Florence.Bronze-clad by Armor Bronze, their name and logo formed into the backs of the bases; and with original labels still affixed to the bottoms. Circa 1920.
Condition is mixed. Day (the male) is in good shape, slight loss of cladding nearthe vicinity of his crotch, minimal chipping in the paint on his figure, and then some wear to the paint on the base. Night (the female) took some hits to her left leg, resulting in some loss of cladding and a crack. I have tried to show these with pencil points. The rest of her lovely person is in good shape with some wear to paint on the base. In defense of her injuries, Iwill say that they become largely invisible from several feet away.
I have always believed the paint is original and still think it is so, but I will confess I lack the full measure of certainty that I have on most of my bookends.
6½ inches tall; base is 6½ inches X 3¼ inches. And quite heavy: Day is 4 pounds; Night is 3 pounds, 11 ounces.
