Very Rare Mid to Late 17th Century Brass and Iron Bound Repousee Dutch Table Box.
Circa
1660 - 1680.
Used for writing implements, private papers, medicines and personal bits and pieces etc.
This is a restoration item that originally would have housed a number of small fitted inner boxes with lids and a secret drawer accessed at the rear, but as with some of these, the innards have long gone.
With what remains it could be restored fully or with a good clean and relining would be a supurb addition to a collector or period home. The brass would come up bright and the iron with oiling a nice dark colour.
The left hand hinge strap (not the hinge itself) is loose at the back but reinstatement of the enclosed original decorative nail will cure that.
I have seen many complete ones of these sell between £3250 to £4000 in recent years so I have price the box accordingly.
