~ Mid 19th Century Cased Marine Sextant By J. Somalvico And Co. London ~A fine quality sextant in its original oak case by the well known makers Joseph Somalvico & Co of London.The piece is complete with all the original mirrors, filters and a brass graduated arc.The sextant comes with three lens tubes, an eyepiece end and a screw.The brass arc is inscribed ‘Joseph Somalvico and Co, London, 561’.~ Dimensions ~The box is fitted to the shape of the sextant and measures approximately 11 inches (28cm) by 13 inches (33cm) with a height of 5 inches (12.5cm). The set weighs 2.95 Kg.~ Condition ~The sextant is in good overall condition. The lenses are clear, the mirrors have some desilvering, the filters are fine. The sextant has some oxidation to it as the brass eyepieces. The box has some surface scratching and general wear. There is no key for the lock but it is also fitted with a hook.~ Joseph Somalvico and Co. ~These British makers of naval instruments, barometers etc. were active from 1839 till 1913.For further details and condition see pictures
