Here is an excellent mint condition mid century USSR Russian Orthodox Hand Carved Burled Wood with Hand Painted Design of St. Cecilia on face and Gold Crucifix on the back. The actual egg measures 6 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide. It has an amazing hand painted design on the front face of St. Cecilia playing a Piano. It is signed St. Cecilia under the picture and is also signed by artist in Russian as pictured above. The rear of the egg has a beautiful thin gold Crucifix. There is also thicker gold trim around the St. Cecilia picture. This is pretty much the best of the best when it comes to Russian eggs and it comes from a very desirable cold war era. It comes with a carved wood stand that also has applied gold detail. The egg with the stand, stands 11 inches tall. The burled wood offers amazing detail and the lacquer applied makes the piece elegant and a true eye catcher. Egg and stand are in excellent mint condition and they have been very well kept and displayed. Please email any question.

Saint Ceciliais thepatronessof musicians. It is written that as the musicians played at her wedding she \"sang in her heart to the Lord\".Her feast day is celebrated in theLatin Catholic,Eastern Catholic,Anglican, andEastern Orthodoxchurches on November 22.She is one of seven women, excluding theBlessed Virgin, commemorated by name in theCanon of the Mass.

While the details of her story appear to be fictional, her existence and martyrdom are considered a historical fact. She is said to have been beheaded with a sword. An early Roman Christian church, Santa Cecilia, was founded in the fourth century in the Trastevere section of Rome, reputedly on the site of the house in which she lived. A number of musical compositions are dedicated to her, and her feast day, November 22, became the occasion for concerts and musical festivals.
