MILITARY 6th CITY OF LONDON RIFLES, KING\'S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS SILVER GOBLET 1924

An interesting cup / goblet made of silver and depicting the crest for 6th City of London Rifles. From researching on the Internet I understand that these were formed as the 2nd London Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1860, its members were recruited mostly from employees of the newspaper and printing industry, two whole companies being provided by the Daily Mail. The corps became a volunteer battalion of the King\'s Royal Rifle Corps in 1881 and in 1900 sent a large contingent with the City Imperial Volunteers to South Africa. The title, 6th (City of London) Battalion, the London Regiment (Rifles) was assumed in 1908.

During the First World War, both the 1/6th and 2/6th Battalions served in France and Belgium, while the 3/6th became the 6th (Reserve) Battalion in 1916. Also in 1916 the \'Rifles\' became part of the KRRC. In 1935 they transferred to the Royal Engineers as 31 Anti Aircraft Battalion. This has the date letter of 1924 and the silversmith being \'TWL\' or \'CWL\'.

Measurements: just over 7.25inches high, just over 3inches wide at base and 3.5inches in diameter across the top.

Condition: Fairly good, it is uncleaned as you can see, has marks all over it and there are a couple of what I consider to be minor dents.

Weight without packaging: 190g (the silver being 90g).

The charge is not me making further profit, simply ensuring that the goods I sell have the best chance possible of arriving with you in the same condition. My response comments are testament to this high standard so please take the opportunity to review these and ensure you are happy with my trading conditions as I will not compromise on this, thank you.
