General information about the Minoan Civilisation:

The prehistoric Palace of Knossos was brought to light by Sir Arthur John Evans, the English archaeologist, at the end of the 1900 century. Knossos was the most important city in Crete, Greece,in prehistoric times. The excavations revealed the first advanced civilisation in Europe. It spanned the interval between approximately 2800 and 1100 B.C. It has been named the \"Minoan Civilisation\", after the legendary \"King Minos\" of Knossos. The centre of the Minoan civilisation was the Royal Palace of Knossos, where excavations have revealed Royal apartments, well stocked magazines (store rooms), shrines, an amphitheatre, the large central court, and the throne room, in which the throne of Minos was discovered, the oldest throne in Europe. They even had running water coming from the mountains (a long distance) using clay pipes!
