Minton King Edward VIII Ltd.Ed.Beaker made for WH Plummer New York.

A very rare find, one of only 2000 made, # 1683, and many fewer made for WH Plummer New York.
The beaker was made in 1937 to celebrate the proposed Coronation of King Edward VIII. As King, Edward reigned for only eleven months. Constitutional difficulties arose in regard to his intended marriage to Mrs. Wallis Simpson,and he had to renounce his Kingship rather than embarrass the monarchy.As such the Coronation ceremony which this beaker commemorates never took place.

The trumpet shaped translucent fine china beaker has a hand enameled, beautifully rendered half length profile portrait of the young King Edward VIII, set within a gilt starburst frame,surmounted by a gilt Imperial State Crown.

To compliment the stunning design of the front,the reverse has the proposed Coronation date set into a decorative frame, again surmounted by The Imperial State Crown.

The inner rim is encircled by a thick gold band which has a repeated pattern of Crowns and the 1937 date.The lavish gilded decoration makes this a stunning and very desirable collectors piece.

The 4 1/8\" tall beaker is as previously stated in pristine condition, without any chips, cracks, crazing or wear to the heavy gilt.On the base is the Minton backstamp together with a dedication for the occasion and the LE number 1683.

This is one of the rarest royal commemoratives and would make a welcome addition to any collection.
