Offered for your review and consideration is this really wonderful MODERNIST ORIGINAL COLOR WOODBLOCK PRINT, SIGNED IN GRAPHITE BY R. WILLIAMS, DATED 1963, #63/200, OF A NEW ENGLAND COASTAL COMMUNITY ON THE WATERFRONT, IN NAVY BLUE, CRIMSON RED, PINK AND GREY INK.The frame measures 20 5/8\" in height x 17 1/8\" in width. The image measures 12 7/8\" in height x 9 7/8\" in width. This terrific color woodblock print is 100% untouched and in original condition, with unbroken dust cover and original, period frame. The imageis a depiction of a New England coastal village, with seaside homes, church steeples and smoke stacks in front of docks and moored fishing boats. Choppy waves in navy blue activate the foreground of the print and collide with the crimson reds of the docks and tied fishing boasts that populate the village wharf. The setting sun is a milky pink and there are hills in grey, rising in back of the village. This is a four color, four impression woodblock, which has the fabulous immediacy and freshness as when it was first executed in 1963. There\'s a \'Haley & Steele\' framer\'s label affixed to the verso, from 91 Newbury St. in Boston, MA. There\'s also an inscription on the brown paper dust cover in ball-point pen that reads, \"Purchased by Rita Cochran, Orleans, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Summer-1966.\" There\'s only the slightest indication of \'tanning\' that occurs on the lower margin of the woodblock print among the navy blue waves of the sea, that was most likely caused from humidity and the backing board behind the print. This is hardly noticeable and isn\'t fatal nor detracts from viewing the entirety of the print. The woodblock is clear and crisp and still has vivid, saturated color. This is a lovely, hand-to-surface period piece by R. Williams andis as it always was, untouched and completely original. OVERALL CONDITION: VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT!
