Monogram JCH - Original 1871 Watercolour. Dated and inscribed. On blue paper. Unsigned. In fine condition.
From a 19th-century sketchbook of outstanding watercolours. Many of the paintings are dated, variously from between 1866 and 1879. Two of the paintings are monogrammed JCH. We have been unable to establish the artist, but these are exceptionally high quality watercolours, all by the same hand. It would seem that the artist is British because the works are dated in English. The scenes, however, cover a range of European countries, including France, Switzerland and Italy, and views around the south of England. All of the watercolours are on paper, laid down on the sketchbook backing paper. Some have foxing on the backing paper, but not on the image unless otherwise stated.
