Crazy Rare & Cool Primitive 1700-1800\'s Sausage or Meat GrinderIncredible Craftsmanship and LookPerfect Patina! Great for True American Primitive Lover, Really Museum QualityOnce in a Lifetime Find!Circa: 1750-1850Approx: 29.75\"L x 6.75\"H x 6.75\" WApprox: 19.75\"L (Box Part)Approx: 15 lbsFresh from an annual specialty antique sale! Act now before we decide to keep it. Seriously.
Almost hard to believe this one still exists, but we found it and now you have. Shows all the elements and innovative genius of early American settlers. Not sure of the exact age, but best guess is 1750-1850 and possibly older based on design elements.
Hand made and old square peg nail (if you can call them that) or wire construction. In good overall condition for it\'s age, but one slot hold peg is missing and other one has some dings. This may have had a leather or other hinge at one time as well as there are holes on one side that indicates such. The meat grinder crank and studded bar still fit and turn well within grinder housing. The metal pegs rotate within metal strips (most likely iron) to shred whatever is put into it from the top. The meat would work its way down and come out the bottom drop hole just like modern grinders. You can only imagine the effort that went into making this. Great display quality and really museum quality in our opinion.
We think originally this would have had two vertical wood hold pegs and one cross hold wood slat to hold the top on while using. These could be easily fashioned to complete item, but it looks great just as it is. And, there are some other dings and wear as seen. Please look over all the pictures taken for your consideration. Let us know if you have other questions.
We obtained from a specialty antique sale with other items dating back to Colonial America, including an 1770-1820\'s blanket chest (to be listed soon).
