Made in Tonga

Stamped \"Extra Fine, Museum Quality\"

The process of making this ancient tradition is still followed by the women in Tonga.  They take tree bark that has been soaked, and put it through a beating and flattening process.  They then paint or decorate the cloth like material with natural pigment.  Each one is different as each artist has their own style.

This particular cloth has a profound amount of porous holes which are natural to the bark.  This particular make must have decided to not patch it, but leave it as it was.  I think it as character to the piece, but then again that is based on the eye of the beholder. 

Measures approx. 23 3/4\" x 18\".
