Pair of polychrome bronze clad Musketeer bookends fromPompeian Bronze Co., New York, NY and sculptured and signed by Paul Herzel.Bookends are in nice condition. Height of bookends are approximately 11 ½” athighest point and width at base is 3 1/8” and depth at base is 3 ½”.

Mostbronze-clad bookends were made during the Art Deco Period of 1920 to 1935. TheRoaring Twenties fostered a thriving business for a handful of US companiesworking in bronze-clad, producing a large variety of bookends, figurines, andreligious statuettes. The Art Deco aesthetic originated in Paris in the earlydecades of the 20th century and affected all areas of design through the 1920sand 1930s, and so falls between Art Nouveau (1890-1905) and the post-World WarII art movement of Abstract expressionism.
