Presented for therestoration specialist or the collector of Civil War gun parts is this fine specimen of a Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket butt plate. This butt plate is in untouched, uncleaned, as-found condition with a wonderful \"barn find\" patina. The butt plate exhibits a nice dark patina on the exterior surface and some rust residue is evident in the screw holes. The interior of the butt plate is a little more \"clean\" per se. This is indicative of having been removed from a weathered stock at some point in the distant past. If you\'ve actually made \"barn finds\" as I have the patina and the factors described above are not unfamiliar to you. Interestingly, this Enfield butt plate has a central reinforcing ridge cast on its interior surface. One does not see this feature on too many Enfield butt plates. Structurally it is in excellent condition. Of course, it does have the expected ding or three overall, but nothing obtrusive or ugly. This would make a great addition to your parts box as finding a part with the right patina or form can sometimes be difficult. The Enfields were hand-fitted; thus, if you need a part it is good to have an inventory on hand to select from. If you need an \"in the black\" Enfield butt plate look no further. !
