This is an excellent find of a working, stunning, beautifully carved, large, 8 day hunter cuckoo clock that was created in the Black Forest of \"Germany\" 65 years ago by the \"Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company;\" you don\'t get any more original than that! Actually, the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing did much more than most to popularize the cuckoo clock since they were quick to mobilize after WWII and did all they could to get their high quality clocks into the hands or GI\'s returning home from the war. My father brought one home and I remember it to this day. The clock is madeof cured and aged Linden woodthat is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the BlackForest.The case is adorned with ten, large, carved wooden oak leaves on the front thatare exceptional, deep, intricate, andwavy. Another oak leaf is found on the wooden pendulum. The carvings have a gorgeous blended walnut and mahogany finish which trulyaccents the entire clock appearance. There is a large carved rabbit mounted to the right side of the case and an equally impressive large carved wooden game bird to the left side. There is a wooden game bag near the bottom in front near the bottom and a gorgeous, carved top featuring a large wooden deer head on the very top complete with antlers. I don\'t think the antlers are wooden but they certainly look real. There is a round wooden mountain horn complete with mouthpiece and horn encircling the dial. The dial itself has a blackbackdrop andfeaturesraised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matchinghands to point out the time. The clock has a fitted wood back and latchessecurely. The dooreasily removes to allow access to the weightdriven, \"Regula\" mechanical movement inside the case bearing the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company name. Regula makes the best movements and CCMC used them in all of their high end clocks. A weight driven movementsimply means that the chains need to be pulled every 8 days or as often as you wish to wind theclock and cuckoo activity. The tall wooden bellow tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour,a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single, deep cuckoo sound in tandem with a nicesounding chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to the safeconfines of the inner clock; fascinating! The clock works quite wellhere, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should though keep in mind this is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history so some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its newhome. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preservethis classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, acarved wooden oak leaf pendulum, and twovery heavy pinecone shaped metalweights. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any repairsor missing pieces. I did notice one of the ends of the upper frame is broken off but it blends so well that it\'s not really detracting...I doubt if anything could detract from this gorgeous clock! This clock isvery impressive and equally so in size too measuring about 19\" high (from the tip of the antlers to the bottom of the game bag and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 8 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 11 1/2\" wide. This clock is a wonderful nostalgic look back at the greatness of Black Forestworkmanship and is certain to turn heads when displayed in yourhome, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase avery nice,rare, hand carved German timepiece with a real history behind it. offer withconfidence; I know you will love this clock!
