This is an excellent find of a very nice, working 8 day cuckoo clock with a stunning, blended walnut finish; very nice! The clock is a rare 3 bird design created in the Black Forest of \"Germany\" about 45 years ago by the \"Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company;\" you don\'t get any more original than that! Actually, the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company did much more than most to popularize the cuckoo clock since they were quick to mobilize after WWII and did all they could to get their high quality clocks into the hands of returning GI\'s from the war. My father brought one home and I remember it to this day. The case is constructed of cured and aged Linden wood which is grown mostly at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The clock is adorned with sevenlarge wood grape leaves and another carved grape leaf is found on thewooden pendulum. There is alarge carved bird, a cuckoo I suspect, on either side of the dial staring backat each other with their red eyes. An equally impressive, large carved bird sits atopthe clock looking as though he\'s ready to fly. The dial has a dark brown backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to pointout the time. There is a wooden back door and it is secured to the case with a metal latch. The back removes easily to allow access to the weight driven mechanical movement produced by \"Regula.\" Regula makes the best movements which is why CCMC used them in all of their high end clocks. Aweight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled every 8 days or as often as you wish to wind the clock and cuckoo activities. The bellow tubes are intact and the tops look and sound goodtoo! At the bottom of each hour, the small wooden door above the dialopens and a colorful bird stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the casebefore retreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. Thecuckoo bird comes out again at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before going back inside theclock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos beautifully as well. Keep in mind that this is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history though I did find a service date on the inside of the back door: 10-11-13. Regardless, someadjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome. We always recommend to our clock customers to service their antiqueor vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will turn aclassic like this one into a family heirloom in years to come. I\'velooked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any damage, repairs, or missing pieces...very minimal wear and certainly nothing detracting...nothing could! It is a very impressivelarge clock measuring about 14\" high (not counting theweights or pendulum), nearly 6\" at is deepest point, and about 9 1/2\" across the top. The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a wooden carved leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clockwould be a welcome addition to any collection and is certain to please you as well as capture the imagination of any guests in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a gorgeous, rare Black Forest timepiece with a wonderful history behind it. offer with confidence; I have no doubt that you will absolutely love this clock!
