No chips, cracks, marks, or crazing- Excellent condition
The small hole on the bottom underside of the base was made during the porcelain manufacturing process. It is quite common for porcelain figurines to have a small \"breathing hole\" to allow the air to escape from the inside of the figurine during the very high firing process. The process of \"punching\" this hole in the base before firing displaces a tiny plug of porcelain to the inside of the hollow figurine; that tiny porcelain bit hardens with firing, causing the distinctive rattle. I had to research this information myself, because I wanted to make sure that it was not a flaw. It was driving me crazy wondering what could be inside :)
