This superblong threestrand natural Sleeping Beauty mine turquoise necklace set was made by Nettie White, of the Navajo Nation (Dine). The necklace is 30 1/4\" long, from loop to hook, and it is finished with the traditional sterling silver cones.The stones are a nice bright blue, with some variation because they have not been dyed. They average7-8 mm by 1.5 mm thick and are genuine Sleeping Beauty mine turquoise nuggets, spaced by ultra-fine baby olive shell heishi. This turquoise was personally hand selected from a trusted seller in Flagstaff, AZ. Almost all turquoise is stabilized for drilling, as is this, but it has not been enhanced in any other way, so we say it is natural turquoise. All of the findings are sterling silver. It is new and it has never been worn.
I now have the sad news that the Sleeping Beauty mine, which has been one of the most productive American turquoise mine ever, has been shut down and is in the process of \"reclaiming\", which means that the ground is being saturated with acid in order to get the copper out. This process destroys all of the turquoise there forever.
