OBVIOUSLY NOT BOOKENDS----BUT OLD BRONZE-CLAD RENDITIONS OF \"THE CHEYENNE\" CREATED BY THE AUSTRIAN FOUNDRY OF FRANZ X. BERGMAN c. 1900---POSSIBLY FROM THE FOUNDRY ITSELF. CERTAINLY EXHIBITS AGE COMPLETE WITH DUST & SPIDER WEBS WHEN FOUND. BUT UNMARKED.
THE MOVEMENT AND FLOW IN THIS WORK OF ART ARE ASTONISHING----WITH GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN THE INDIAN WARRIOR, HIS FACE, HIS HORSE WITH FLOWING MANE & TAIL, MUSCLES OF THE BODY. AMAZING BALANCE AS THE INDIAN ROLLS TO HIS RIGHT SIDE TO SHOOT AN ARROW UNDER THE NECK OF HIS HORSE (possibly at a buffalo)====GREAT AMERICAN SCENE!!!
BRONZE-CLAD---with wonderful, warm bronze patina over the horse & Indian bodies---cold painted dusting to the warrior\'s black hair, horse\'s mane, red feathered arrow & bow, yellow-tinted blanket and ground.
12 3/4 x 6 x 5 in. (exact dimensions of the original). 4.8 pounds,
BOTTOM bears ring for the electrolytic plating.
CONDITION: 4 stable cracks on the Indian\'s arm, horse\'s leg, bow and the robe strut connecting the figure to the base. One corner crack and dent.
