Signed by Howard Stogan of the Musqueam Indian ReserveLarge 23.5\" long Northwest Coast First Nation\'s wood carving of a fishMusqueam is located in the heart of Vancouver BC, the Musqueam people have existed here for thousands of yearsFishing being a large part of their cultural heritage as they live on the banks of the Fraser River this fish (likely salmon) would bea very traditional motif. This is a piece of art but it is also a piece that was usable in everyday lifeA bowl or dish the depressed area is 8\" x 4\" (20 cm x 10 cm) and about 1.5\" deep (4 cm)Total length is 23.5\" (59.5 cm) x 8\" wide (20.5 cm) x 2\" high (5 cm)There is a crack that runs along the top (12\" long) that I believe was present at the time of the carvingNot positive but believe this is cedar. The pieces weighs just about 2 lbs.What a wonderful piece of Canadian heritage and a beautiful piece to display in your home.Musqueam people are descended from the Coast Salish of British Columbia.
