Welcome!

This is a gorgeous bolo dating from earlier than 1957-1967, probably Navajo but it could be Cochiti, or another tribe. It shows off a stunning piece of natural Blue Gem turquoise, which is inset into a shadowbox and then framed with hand incised silver. I\'ve chosen to wear it above several hundred I have here, so you know I love it and I\'ve gotten constant compliments on it. The old original tips are scored in a way that works perfectly with the scoring on the bolo and the tips are also proportionally the right size for the bolo. I had the tie changed to a fabulous buttery soft leather tie that perfectly works with the colors of the turquoise. It closes with a C31 Bennett but there are indications that this tie holder was added later and that this is an earlier bolo that was originally made with hand made wires or a pressure mechanism tie holder. I\'ve included a page from Dr. Schaaf\'s biography book 3, which depicts a necklace made by Joe H. Quintana. You can see that similar stones were used in a similar mounting, a setting with incised lines similar to this bolo. I am not making the attribution but Joe H. Quintana had a brilliant sense of style and I believe that same brilliant sense of style is reflected in this bolo.

The stone looks like it has cracks in the magnified pics, but my fingernails don\'t catch and so I believe that is just matrix and that it was polished with those matrix lines originally. The stone has a mirror finish which you can\'t see very well in my pictures.  Overall condition is excellent vintage, wearable and collectible. It\'s in great shape.  The turquoise is plain bezel set and it measures 1-1/8\" (2.86 cm) H x 1/2\" (1.27 cm) W. It is the kind of stone I could look at forever because there is so much to be seen in it. The bolo itself measures 2-1/4\" (5.72 cm+) tall x 1-1/2\" (3.81 cm) wide. The tips measure 2-1/8\" (5.40 cm). The tie end to end with the tips measures 40\" (101.60 cm) including tips. It is unsigned and not marked for silver content which is usual for that period of time. The silver is at least coin, at .900 or sterling silver .925.

Currently in my store is a bracelet that is a great pair with this bolo and I\'ve included a picture above.

This is one of those totally satisfying old bolos that you will love forever and will be happy to have in your collection. It has a simple elegance in design, and like me, I\'ll bet you\'ll choose it to wear, above the rest.

I do have more information about the estate from which this bolo came and will be happy to share that with the buyer.

The 15% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you\'re happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend ATADA nor buying from their members with perhaps one exception, and retract my previous endorsement of the group.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
