This is a gorgeous bolo dating from earlier than 1957, probably Navajo but it could be Cochiti, or another tribe. It shows off a stunning piece of natural Morenci turquoise with pyrite and quartz inclusions, which is cut with five sides, like a diamond shape when viewed from the side, and also cut to be raised, dimensional and which is inset into a shadowbox, plain bezel set, and then framed with hand incised silver. I\'ve chosen to wear it above several hundred I have here, so you know I love it and I\'ve gotten constant compliments on it. The old original tips are lovely and old, but one of them has a squished place. I personally wouldn\'t try to repair it but it is possible it could be pushed out from the inside by a silversmith. The tips are proportionally the right size for the bolo and they are a lovely shape. The tie has a hardened place in the center at the top but I\'ve tried to soften it with conditioner. The rest of the tie is soft and flexible and I think the top is better now and it\'s very much wearable. I\'ve included a page from Dr. Schaaf\'s biography book 3, which depicts a necklace made by Joe H. Quintana. You can see that similar stones were used in a similar mounting, a setting with incised lines similar to this bolo. I am not making the attribution but Joe H. Quintana had a brilliant sense of style and I believe that same brilliant sense of style is reflected in this bolo.

Overall condition is excellent vintage, wearable and collectible. It\'s in great shape.  The turquoise measures 1-3/16\" H x 20/16\" W. It is the kind of stone I could look at forever because there is so much to be seen in it. The bolo itself measures 1-13/16\" tall x 1-1/2\" wide. The tips measure 2-1/4\" high. The tie end to end with the tips measures 38\" including tips. There are hand made wires on the back to hold the leather tie. The piece was made before 1957, from the 1940s to early 1950s. It is unsigned and not marked for silver content which is usual for that period of time. The silver is at least coin, at .900 or sterling silver .925.

This is one of those totally satisfying old bolos that you will love forever and will be happy to have in your collection. It has a simple elegance in design, and like me, I\'ll bet you\'ll choose it to wear, above the rest.

Yes, I sometimes can take reasonable offers.

I generally ship same day. First item shipping in the US costs $5.99 Priority or $3.99 First Class or $25 Overnight. You may add an additional item for three days at no additional shipping charge. Three or more items are free shipping entirely if purchased in one shopping cart basket. Tracking is included in that cost, and Signature Confirmation is included on items $825 or more, total. International buyers pay actual shipping cost and are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. I generally use Express International, which is tracked and insured, but can always consider Priority Mail International if that is your preference. It\'s less expensive and is tracked, but usually cannot be insured. To the UK and Canada, even First Class International can be used because it can be tracked to those countries. We can discuss it prior to purchase. I am no longer shipping to Italy and China. You can talk to me about this, especially if you are a prior customer.

Returns will be accepted for 30 days after your receipt for any reason and without question. Please let me know if you would like to return something. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I\'ll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you\'re happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend ATADA nor buying from their members with perhaps one exception, and retract my previous endorsement of the group.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
