Welcome!

I\'m offering a rare example of a bird pin from the Fred Harvey era. It appears to be the same as the Seligman\'s bird pin depicted in the book \"The Native American Curio Trade in New Mexico\" by Jonathan Batkin, the page of which I included above. Pretty exciting to have one of these and the remnant of the price tag is still on it. It seems like they used the template to outline the form and then hand worked it, hand stamped it and so forth, so there would have been differences in the details for each bird. In this case the stamp work is just great and the bird is fabulous!

In the 1930s, the Seligmans\' shop utilized no machinery in their shop except electric buffers. Each smith sat at is own workbench. The finished pieces had tags reading \"Genuine Indian Jewelry Handmade from Sterling Silver by the Navajo Inidans.\" They moved to Albuquerque in 1946 and his Navajo smiths built hogans inside the shop, actually sleeping there!

This pin measures c. 2-1/8\" L x 1-13/16\" H and weighs 7.3grams. It has a working locking rollover clasp;. It\'s in excellent vintage and collectible condition. Nice patina, which would shine nicely if you wanted to do that.

This type of pin is highly collectible and it\'s rare to my experience, it has considerable charm: a very special and delightful piece which I frankly find it hard to give up. You\'ll be so happy to have it, too. A fun, important, little present!

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so I countercheck without relying on just one source, when possible. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost and are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply.
