The squash blossom was made by the NAVAJO artist LARRY PLATERO.The family from Farmington/the Four Corners, who is well known for its traditional jewelry.Larry Platero made it at, maybe, the peak of his career, when he was around 40 years old.This was in the sixties.And the piece, almost half a century old, is timeless.
The artist made a wonderful presentation for its treasure.He hand carved an ethnic box, very stunning.It is 43\" long.It is interesting to note that the portrait with its turquoise (real stones) is not a Navajo, but probably Sioux.The squash blossom might have been made with the intent to be given for a wedding...It definitely has been made for some kind of ceremony... It is not for the every day wear!
Maybe it came out from the \"Tales from 1 001 Nights\"It has the enchantment of the fairy tale.A unimaginable beauty...The squash blossom is radiating power. It is simply dazzling.
First it is hard to think, to talk, to apprehend.Then the beauty gets in fact more intense.
The necklace is huge... I am not saying big. No, truly gigantic. The necklace is 43\" long. It would go down way lower than my waist, that\'s how big it is.There are gorgeous hand made gold leaves, around each turquoise.The beads are gorgeous, handmade and hand stamped.They are strung on a 14k gold foxtail chain.Then, the turquoise... A true dream...Finally some turquoise with the real true blue, the right amount of matrix... and no crack, no enhancement, no stabilization.The stones are fat! They are all dome with this beautiful curve, real high dome.There is the Naja with 7 stones.The three turquoise on top are 2\" long and 1.5\" wide.The 12 turquoise on the sides go from 1\" long to 1 3/4\" long.These are big stones, perfectly carved, polished and glossy.They are sumptuous.
The 715 grams squash blossom will put you in awe,to take you to another world...Rich of turquoise, gold and beauty!
