This is a masterful stone on stone mosaic inlay necklace from Alvin Yellowhorse. It was purchased new from a high-end Native American gallery in Utah and has been stored. It is a beautiful celestial display with an opal and coral comet shooting through the night sky of planets and stars. The main star is turquoise with a touch of green gaspeite and is surrounded by silver and copper planets or stars, depending on your interpretation. The entire inlay is displayed on a jet background showing Mr. Yellowhorse\'s precise and expert technique. The sterling link chain and pendant weigh 19 grams. The pendant part of the necklace has a gentle arch to it and is 2 3/8\" long including the smoothly soldered circular fasteners. The width including the silver setting is slightly over 1/2 \" at the widest part. The setting is expertly incised with 12 bars on both the top and bottom showing his signature style. The sterling silver link chain is 8\" long on each side, and hooks with a secure spring clasp. Entire length is 18\" and has a fluid comfortable drape on the neck. The underside is signed Alvin Yellowhorse in cursive, with a horse engraving next to his surname. There is also a small grouping of minute dashes which look intentional. I purchased new this year and have stored carefully, so any minute surface (easily buffed) scratching would be from rubbing against other silver items. Alvin Yellowhorse is from Gallup, New Mexico. He is credited with being the originator of corn row wave inlay. He credits his inspiration from his Anasazi ancestors, as well as his Navajo and Hopi family. His work is internationally known highly and respected; an asset to any collection.
