VintageNative Southwest Egyptian Style Collar Handmade Necklace Sterling Spectacular!
Wonderful Nativesterling silver American Navajo three piece hinged ceremonial collar featuresmultiple gemstone cabs including Turquoise, Coral, Lapis, Malachite, Charoite,Mother of Pearl and Spiny Oyster. The cabs are set in custom sawtooth bezelswith small silver applied raindrops (we counted 89 of them!).
The three plates areexpertly chiseled on the edges and connect to the hand wrought chain whichmeasures 16” long (without the 1/2” hook closure), including the collar (4”)for a total of 20 and 1/2” long. The middle piece measures 1 and 3/4 x 1 1/4inch.. This fabulous piece Weighs a solid 47 grams.
Itis signed RW and STERLING. This is a hallmark found on page 182 of the book,HALLMARKS OF THE SOUTHWEST by Barton Wright, a well-respected authority andformer museum curator. It is said to be that of R. Williams, a Navajo artistwho was a smith associated with the Bowser/Begay Indian Jewelry Company. It wasfirst used in 1976.
It is very rare and unusual...from my ownprivate collection. Ithas been well cared for over the past. Time to let someone elseenjoy it now!
