It is designed for human ears,not for testing equipment. It is 85-lb (93 lbwith the boxes) 845 SET amp with top panel of 5-20 mm thick solid copper-steel alloy. No one makesthat except Dared! Go back all the issues of \"Steroephile\" or \"Absolute Sound\" magazineto search all those \"best buy\" or \"Class-A recommended\"amps near this price, and then bring them to compare this new Dared VP-845 side-by-side.You will find most are under half size and half weight of this Dared. The sound quality of those amps is probably is noteven considered to compare to this one. Oh yea, you may find a $3500 80-lb ampwith large transformer cover contains a small transformer filled up with\"pastel\" for sizing and weight. Not for the Dared! You get everymusic out of every pound of these Transformers (the caps of transformers arecopper/alloy. the 60-lbbare transformers with no covers and no \"pastel\"! You can see theirons). Do not buy any other 845 amp that is less than 90 lb in weight and donot buy any 845 amp that has transformer covers on or using toroidal transformers (cheaper and lighter)--- beware lots of tube amps sale online used toroidal output transformers. People often asked a question: why/how this amp sound is so superior to others when standard measured THD shown in the spec is so poor even comparing to $200 amps sold in BustBuy store?

This is very fair question, and also a hardest question. It will be a long story, but I link follow article you will find an answer. This article studied two types of Tube SET amps:

1) 300B tube SET amp (pg. 2) and

2) 45 tube SET amp (pg. 22, and 64)

Note: The amp is integrated amp has a volume control with 4 inputs. In the past, many owners wanted to have an option to configure this amp as a power amp so they can connect to their own preamp. We do offer such mod to add this option. Cost such mod is $70 (an option to bypass the preamp stage and volume control on this amp so one can connect this amp to an external preamp).

Basically, we configure the 4th input of the select switch as bypass input so the input wires from 4th input will directly connect to driver tubes (bypass the volume pot and preamp stage tubes). You can use the 4th input as a “power amp input” to connect to your external preamp. Other three inputs are intact, to connect your CD player, Receiver, or whatever your source is.
