This style of mask was originally carved into canoe paddles and house posts. They were made to represent the ancestors of the the village people . The style is typical of those carved in Tambanum village on the Sepik River. The mask is in very good condition with incised design and highlighted with natural earth pigments. Collected in the early 60s
