Niagara Falls Souvenir Trinket Dish – Made By Shofu China In Occupied Japan:
Up for sale is a nice little souvenir trinket dish featuring the “GENERAL VIEW OF NIAGARA FALLS”. I think it pictures the American Falls. On the back (in red) it says SHOFU CHINA MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN. It measures 3 ½ inches square and weighs 4 ounces. The condition is good enough – there’s a scuffy area in one corner, some pits, spots and bumps in the glaze, and stray gold on the back. According to my research, pieces were marked Occupied Japan from 1945 until 1952. I was unable to find this particular backstamp for Shofu China, and it feels to be over the glaze, so I cannot say for sure that this piece is authentic – it does appear to be old, though. Thank you for looking!
