CLASSIC Original Antique Victorian CURRIER & IVES PRINT, “GENERAL GRANT & FAMILY”, DATED 1867

DESCRIPTION:Scans show it all.....large print, dated 1867. At the bottom also printed “Published by Currier & Ives” with the 125 Nassau St. address.

Titled \"General Grant & Family\". He is shown wearing his Civil War uniform and vest, with his youngest son sitting on his knee. Also has his wife Julia and their 4 children. She is wearing a very full dress with loads of ruffles. THIS IS A GREAT POSE !!! A very classic portrait and I have seen it in all formats, including CdV\'s, oversized \"poster\" size for wall framing. THIS IS THE FIRST ORIGINAL STANDARD CURRIER & IVES PRINT SIZE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN !!!

Overall size is approximately 11\" x 15\".

Obviously, Grant was extremely popular after the end of the Civil War, as shown by this 1867 print. This popularity led to his election as President the next year in 1868, in the first election after Lincoln. He served 2 terms as President, until 1876, and was in charge during the Indian War period, with Custer, and the Little Big Horn Massacre, etc. In fact, Custer was recalled by Grant and he was trying to impress his superiors with a victory, leading to his over-anxious pursuit of the Sioux, when he was massacred.

Has great eye appeal to decorate any period wall or collection display of early prints or antique items, especially if you are interested in the Civil War, Presidential items, or obviously, interesting Currier & Ives prints. A great Christmas gift and very suitable for framing.
